November 2009 Bazaar featuring Tina Fey

Advertising Highlights: Jimmy Choo for H & M (sexy, black leather numbers ranging in price from $99.00-$129.00 and yes, the shoes really are made of leather).

Advertising Lowlights: DKNY Cozy ad…It’s like a really stylish Snuggie!

Cover Story: Tina Fey is smart, funny and cute (but when she is airbrushed, like on the cover, descriptors perky and pretty come to mind).

Articles: Under $500 Smart Shopping, all I can say is slim pickings…I like $375 Proenza Schouler Shirt but I don’t know if I could call that a good deal. For all you yoga fans, Trudie Styler has developed three yoga DVDs shot on her Tuscan estate, go to gaiam.com for more info.
Prettiest Polish for every age: 20s&30s metallic purples and deep graphite, 40s&50s dark colors minus the metallic and 60s & 70s pale pinks and classic reds.

Editorials
Crimes of Fashion : slightly cliche piece that I am pretty sure I have seen before…actually wasn’t this the idea that the villain in 13 going on 30 pitched? In any event, Sam Waterston makes an appearance.

Horoscope: “The world is kind to you and love is in the air.” Allright….

Bottom Line: Nothing ground breaking about this month’s bazaar, just a regular fashion update for $3.99.

Intel (as in intelligence) vs. Ebay January 31, 2009

Filed under: Art — Ivy Schnepp @ 7:35 pm

So back in November, I got word of these new nail polishes by Chanel called the Moscow (Mouscou) collection. There are three colors: Nuit de Russie, Or de Russie and Feu de Russie.  Each color uses a deep black base and then three different shades of red (Feu), blue (Nuit) and Gold (Or).  For Christmas I asked my husband to get me Feu de Russie.  So like the wonderful husband he is, he started at Nordstroms where he was met with blank stares at the Chanel counter.  Next, he tried Saks and again, nothing.  ”Moscow Collection, I’ve never heard of that.  Are you sure its from Chanel?”  It is always great when you know more about the line than the people working behind the counters.

So Part Two of the Moscow Nail Polish Saga. (more…)

Cold Shoulder October 8, 2008

Filed under: Art — Ivy Schnepp @ 8:38 pm

One major trend seen on the New York Fashion week was the one shoulder, asymmetrical cut.  This look could be seen on nearly all of the fashion shows which is quite surprising (and disturbing if you like your sleeves to match).  Some designers took a Grecian approach (see Temperley London) while other went 70’s Retro (Halston) while others still did ghetto fab or fabulosity (Kimmora’s word du jour).  Chris Benz created a modern, stylized one shoulder look and a romantic, soft pink version, as well.  Monique Lhuillier also created a modern look… but Lhuillier’s was more grown up.  Although, ML’s red, singular, poofy sleeve was slightly reminiscent of Working Girl.

She’s a Daytripper… July 23, 2008

Filed under: Art — Ivy Schnepp @ 9:12 pm

Most savvy shoppers know the famous Nordstroms’ Anniversary is going on until August 4th.  I visited on Day 2 of the Sale and it was pretty picked through.  Needless to say, an Anniversary Sale shopping experience gone bust, so sad… There were really only a few items that piqued my interest, the See by Chloe Daytripper bag and the Tahari All Weather Belted Trench.

Different Strokes July 12, 2008

Filed under: Art — Ivy Schnepp @ 9:37 pm

James Nares’ work appears initially simplistic, his thick, yearning brush stokes swirling and careening on a basic canvas. Yet, there is something entirely more artistic and entirely less simplistic about the colors, the conjured textures and internal aspects of Nares’ strokes. James Nare is a featured artist at the Paul Kasmin Gallery in New York.

It has been awhile… May 27, 2008

Filed under: Art — Ivy Schnepp @ 4:53 pm

I know it has been awhile since my last blog post and I know that my loyal readers, all two of you, have been faithfully checking and re-checking NWPosh for some new info. And alas, I am going to do something a little different. I have a confession to make, I have a problem…I read celebrity gossip sites, like PerezHilton.com and CoutureCandy.com everyday. Some times even a few times every day. It is getting to be a problem. It is getting out of hand. I have decided that my New Year’s Resolution for 2009 will be to not go onto a single celebrity gossip site for the whole year. I just think of all of the time spent wasted looking at other’s lives and I feel pathetic. NO MORE!!

But 2009 is about six months away so until then…I will continue to feast my eyes on the fashion debacles, fashion delights, the annoying, the heinous and the down right out of control…

So, on that note, please someone either kill or maim Lauren Conrad or myself or Heidi Montag or just Conrad and Montag and leave me. Seriously, Conrad has positioned herself as the Nicole Richie of the non-celebrity reality show genre, somehow sadly giving Richie more credibility. She has the same waif-y, child like hands with the dark nail polish that is sooo two or three years ago, the Heidi braids, the over sized jersey dress with (or without tights) and flats and the same raised, slightly hunched shoulders. I can only imagine what kind of spine curvature she is going to have when she is sixty. And they don’t have plastic surgery to fix that one! Her quasi boho look has become her claim to fame (rhymes with maim). Please stop watching her “show” so they will cancel it and I never have to look at her stupid face (and facial expressions again).

And, no. There are no photos to correspond to this blog post. I will not further her infiltration into pop culture.
