Cold Shoulder October 8, 2008

Filed under: Art — Ivy Schnepp @ 8:38 pm

One major trend seen on the New York Fashion week was the one shoulder, asymmetrical cut.  This look could be seen on nearly all of the fashion shows which is quite surprising (and disturbing if you like your sleeves to match).  Some designers took a Grecian approach (see Temperley London) while other went 70’s Retro (Halston) while others still did ghetto fab or fabulosity (Kimmora’s word du jour).  Chris Benz created a modern, stylized one shoulder look and a romantic, soft pink version, as well.  Monique Lhuillier also created a modern look… but Lhuillier’s was more grown up.  Although, ML’s red, singular, poofy sleeve was slightly reminiscent of Working Girl.

She’s a Daytripper… July 23, 2008

Most savvy shoppers know the famous Nordstroms’ Anniversary is going on until August 4th.  I visited on Day 2 of the Sale and it was pretty picked through.  Needless to say, an Anniversary Sale shopping experience gone bust, so sad… There were really only a few items that piqued my interest, the See by Chloe Daytripper bag and the Tahari All Weather Belted Trench.

Different Strokes July 12, 2008

James Nares’ work appears initially simplistic, his thick, yearning brush stokes swirling and careening on a basic canvas. Yet, there is something entirely more artistic and entirely less simplistic about the colors, the conjured textures and internal aspects of Nares’ strokes. James Nare is a featured artist at the Paul Kasmin Gallery in New York.

It has been awhile… May 27, 2008

Filed under: Art — Ivy Schnepp @ 4:53 pm

I know it has been awhile since my last blog post and I know that my loyal readers, all two of you, have been faithfully checking and re-checking NWPosh for some new info. And alas, I am going to do something a little different. I have a confession to make, I have a problem…I read celebrity gossip sites, like PerezHilton.com and CoutureCandy.com everyday. Some times even a few times every day. It is getting to be a problem. It is getting out of hand. I have decided that my New Year’s Resolution for 2009 will be to not go onto a single celebrity gossip site for the whole year. I just think of all of the time spent wasted looking at other’s lives and I feel pathetic. NO MORE!!

But 2009 is about six months away so until then…I will continue to feast my eyes on the fashion debacles, fashion delights, the annoying, the heinous and the down right out of control…

So, on that note, please someone either kill or maim Lauren Conrad or myself or Heidi Montag or just Conrad and Montag and leave me. Seriously, Conrad has positioned herself as the Nicole Richie of the non-celebrity reality show genre, somehow sadly giving Richie more credibility. She has the same waif-y, child like hands with the dark nail polish that is sooo two or three years ago, the Heidi braids, the over sized jersey dress with (or without tights) and flats and the same raised, slightly hunched shoulders. I can only imagine what kind of spine curvature she is going to have when she is sixty. And they don’t have plastic surgery to fix that one! Her quasi boho look has become her claim to fame (rhymes with maim). Please stop watching her “show” so they will cancel it and I never have to look at her stupid face (and facial expressions again).

And, no. There are no photos to correspond to this blog post. I will not further her infiltration into pop culture.

Purchase the next Dali or Picasso… January 14, 2008

Filed under: Art — Ivy Schnepp @ 2:23 pm

I have this fantasy about art. It goes something like this…I discover the work of a starving artist type (because I have such a good eye!), I hang it in my house and years later that starving artist becomes big and famous and then I can say, “Oh, yes I have an original so and so.  I purchased it for just a few hundred dollars back in 2010.  Oh, you purchased yours for 1.2 million.” One website I have found that appears to have several promising art work, appealing to a wide variety of tastes is the Beholder. One of my favorites is Bob Bechtol. His work reminds me of Rothko. Visit the Beholder and check out Bob Bechtol’s work, among many others.

Ali Stephens October 27, 2007

Filed under: Art, Fashion — Ivy Schnepp @ 10:08 pm

After the end of each Fashion Week, the powers that be select the new group of fresh faced top models that have graced the catwalk and left their marks. Recently, Style.com put out its newest selection of the chosen few (selected from the chosen few). Out of the list, Ali Stephens leaps from the crowd.

Stephens, a sixteen year old, from Utah has an incredible face with a youthful, healthy innocence that is gaze and awe worthy with an equally svelte body that glides down the catwalk with the ease of a seasoned pro.

She signed with Elite Model Management mere weeks prior to landing a lucrative spot on Prada’s runway. Smart move on the part of Elite as this new comer has serious staying power.

Expect this to be the first time (of many) you will hear the name Ali Stephens mentioned among fashion circles.
