Intel (as in intelligence) vs. Ebay January 31, 2009
So back in November, I got word of these new nail polishes by Chanel called the Moscow (Mouscou) collection. There are three colors: Nuit de Russie, Or de Russie and Feu de Russie. Each color uses a deep black base and then three different shades of red (Feu), blue (Nuit) and Gold (Or). For Christmas I asked my husband to get me Feu de Russie. So like the wonderful husband he is, he started at Nordstroms where he was met with blank stares at the Chanel counter. Next, he tried Saks and again, nothing. ”Moscow Collection, I’ve never heard of that. Are you sure its from Chanel?” It is always great when you know more about the line than the people working behind the counters.
So Part Two of the Moscow Nail Polish Saga. I had nearly forgotten about the nail polish until I read Fashionista this afternoon. Megan McIntyre wrote a piece called Sparkles, Thanks to Karl in which the lusted after colors are featured and she writes, “So if you don’t mind dropping the cash for the lacquer, you better do it fast because these babies are soon to be just a distant, shimmery memory.”
And just like that, a fire starts inside me and I must have Feu de Russie. I must! So I get on Ebay because I know Nordy’s and Saks is dead end. And there she is, my Feu de Russie, with bidding at $24.01. I know the polish retails for $30.00 so I bid. Immediately, I am out bid so I bid again. And again, I am outbid. ”OK, its on,” I tell myself. So I bid $40.00 which I tell myself is my max. Outbid again. Now, I am frustrated, pacing, should I do it? Should I bid again? Then the light bulb comes on and I remember reading this article about the Encore, the new addition to Steve Wynn’s luxurious hotel in Las Vegas. One of the shops located in the Encore Esplanade is a Chanel Boutique that features the Moscow Collection. So I call the Wynn, ask to be transferred to the Chanel Shop in the Esplanade and just like that, Feu de Russie is on its way for its retail price. Intel, Ladies, intel. You gotta know where to look!
