November 2009 Bazaar featuring Tina Fey

Advertising Highlights: Jimmy Choo for H & M (sexy, black leather numbers ranging in price from $99.00-$129.00 and yes, the shoes really are made of leather).

Advertising Lowlights: DKNY Cozy ad…It’s like a really stylish Snuggie!

Cover Story: Tina Fey is smart, funny and cute (but when she is airbrushed, like on the cover, descriptors perky and pretty come to mind).

Articles: Under $500 Smart Shopping, all I can say is slim pickings…I like $375 Proenza Schouler Shirt but I don’t know if I could call that a good deal. For all you yoga fans, Trudie Styler has developed three yoga DVDs shot on her Tuscan estate, go to gaiam.com for more info.
Prettiest Polish for every age: 20s&30s metallic purples and deep graphite, 40s&50s dark colors minus the metallic and 60s & 70s pale pinks and classic reds.

Editorials
Crimes of Fashion : slightly cliche piece that I am pretty sure I have seen before…actually wasn’t this the idea that the villain in 13 going on 30 pitched? In any event, Sam Waterston makes an appearance.

Horoscope: “The world is kind to you and love is in the air.” Allright….

Bottom Line: Nothing ground breaking about this month’s bazaar, just a regular fashion update for $3.99.

Panthera August 16, 2009

Filed under: Lifestyle — Ivy Schnepp @ 7:24 pm

Two of NWPosh’s favorite interests are fashion and wild cats, specifically wild cat conservation.  In an ideal world, the two shall never meet (think fur coats).  However, I recently came across the Helping Animals One Search at a Time Contest offered by Engineworks, a Portland, Oregon Search Engine Marketing Company.  EngineWorks is providing a free three month professional Search Engine Optimization campaign to a non-profit animal advocacy organization.  Panthera would be an excellent recipient of this opportunity.  The conservation of all wild animals is important but not all conservation groups are as well established and organized as Panthera. The site is a hotbed of knowledge.

Panthera is an impressive organization founded by the top minds in wild cat conservation.  Panthera’s President and CEO (and one of my favorite authors), Alan Rabinowitz, is the cream of the crop when it comes to wild cat research and conservation.  He not only created the worlds’ first jaguar preserve but has also wrote several books, including Chasing the Dragon’s Tail: The Struggle to Save Thailand’s Wild Cats and Beyond the Last Village.   Rabinowitz embodies what makes Panthera such a great organization, he recognizes the importance of balancing the scientific mind with in situ research.

Panthera develops and supports several groundbreaking concepts in wild cat conservation like the Tiger Corridor Initiative which establishes safe passage ways through human landscapes ”potentially connecting tiger populations from Nepal into Bhutan and Northern India through Myanmar, Thailand, Laos, Cambodia, and ending in Malaysia” to the Global Felid Genetics Program which creates a standard for the collection of felid bio-materials to facilitate long term conservation of wild cats through genetic research.  Panthera also offers research grants as well as graduate awards to nurture and develop the next generation of researchers and biologists.

EngineWorks understands the importance of using the internet to raise awareness.  Together, EngineWorks and Panthera can promote wild cat conservation to a wider audience.

Intel (as in intelligence) vs. Ebay January 31, 2009

Filed under: Art — Ivy Schnepp @ 7:35 pm

So back in November, I got word of these new nail polishes by Chanel called the Moscow (Mouscou) collection. There are three colors: Nuit de Russie, Or de Russie and Feu de Russie.  Each color uses a deep black base and then three different shades of red (Feu), blue (Nuit) and Gold (Or).  For Christmas I asked my husband to get me Feu de Russie.  So like the wonderful husband he is, he started at Nordstroms where he was met with blank stares at the Chanel counter.  Next, he tried Saks and again, nothing.  ”Moscow Collection, I’ve never heard of that.  Are you sure its from Chanel?”  It is always great when you know more about the line than the people working behind the counters.

So Part Two of the Moscow Nail Polish Saga. (more…)

Fashion Design Camp January 30, 2009

Filed under: Fashion — Ivy Schnepp @ 7:49 pm

After perusing the web for fashion fodder, I came across one of the best ideas I have seen in awhile and it is located here in Portland.  Fashion Design Camp is the creation of Tacee Webb and her daughter, Palace.  Webb is the founder of Red Light Clothing Exchange.  FDC is a five day camp for children ages 8-16.  At the end of the workshop, a fashion show is put on, showcasing the creations of the week.  But this camp is not only for those wishing to become designers but also those who want to work in the fashion industry, whether that be as a boutique owner or buyer or fashion stylist. It encourages participants to recognize and to take advantage of the resources that Portland has to offer.

Top of the News…Big Count Down, fifteen days until Fashion Week in NYC!!

Say it Ain’t So ….Gisele for Rampage?!?  That’s right, the Brazilian Bombshell has signed on to be the current face of Rampage.  I haven’t wore Rampage since I was in eighth grade and was on a budget.

Interesting News…Charlotte Russe, a mall staple, has teamed with Eric Daman to revamp their image. You might know Daman as the styling force behind Gossip Girl so think less Forever 21 and more Century 21.  xoxo

Good Betty…check out NY Magazine’s Fug Girls: Seven Ways to Revive Ugly Betty accurate assessment of how to fix ailing show.

And for those of you who share my addiction to chocolate and are in Portland, stop by Chocolate Fest at the World Forestry Center January 31st and February 1st.  Admission is $8.00 and doors open at 10, closing at 5.  See you there!  I’ll be the one with chocolate all over my face!!

Filed under: Fashion, Lifestyle, Travel — Ivy Schnepp @ 12:12 pm

As the 2008 winter blast hits Portland, you may be wishing to return to the normal drizzle or you may be excited that our green landscape has turned into winter wonderland (even if just for a little while).  For those of you prefer the balmy heat and wish to escape the rain and/or snow, an exciting, fashionable escape awaits you.

The Brazil Fashion Cruise is the ultimate fashion meets vacation experience.  Arrive in Santos (near Sao Paulo which seems to produce a model every thirty seconds) and hit the seas for a seven night, eight day cruise aboard a virtual floating fashion show, stopping at beautiful spots, Búzios, Salvador, Maceió, and Ilhéus.  Prices for the chic trip range from $1100-$1500 which includes five meals and fashion shows from eight Brazilian designers!  Visit www.fashioncruise.com.br for more details.

Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show December 4, 2008

Filed under: Fashion — Ivy Schnepp @ 9:37 am

So, last night was the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show.  The only thing that saved this shoddily filmed debacle masquerading as a fashion show was the beautiful women with extremely beautiful bodies.  It was cheesy.  It was staged.  It stunk.  It reminded me of some fashion version of a Miss America Pageant.

The point that pushed me over the edge to turning off the television was the Pink segment of the “fashion show.”  The Pink division of Victoria’s Secret is geared toward college age women.  It appeared that the clothes were haphazardly put together in a rush by people participating in some nightmare form of Project Runway or America’s Next Top Designer or something… Seriously, I get it.  Young women like cheeky things written on their butt cheeks, like “Juicy” or wait that’s another brand, I mean “Pink” or “Pink Things” or “Sweetie.”  Yes, young women like oversized puffers and arm stockings with no hands and knee highs and scarves.  Jeez!  You HAVE to have a scarf on.  But really, do you really need really small “Sweetie” underwear and then a really large scarf and a tiara and knee highs all on at the same time?!?  Don’t get me wrong, it’s not that fashion doesn’t contain elements of randomness but it was the wrong elements put together and they just didn’t add up!

P.S. Heidi Klum is awesome!!
